Passionate about Planet Earth! Happy Earth Day!

PASSION -a fervent or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything; experience of strong love or sexual desire. [Passion Week begins here. Click for this week's Bliss Initiatives.]

Until yesterday, when I allowed myself to get present to my Passions, I probably wouldn't have written a post about Earth Day. I might have thought so many other people were doing so that my thoughts weren't that needed. But that isn't really what PASSION is all about. Having a passion for something means that your voice is important if ONLY for yourself!! I am passionate about planet earth and I have been quelling my enthusiasm for no apparent reason!

Can you believe this is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day?? The sad thing is the earth itself is in no better shape then when the idea was launched. We have better marketing for Earth Day but we really don't have a healthier planet. Some of this is result of people not knowing what to do. The problems our planet faces can seem so huge that we can struggle with how our tiny impact can really do anything, good or bad. This satirical piece by the Onion says it far better then I ever could: 'How Bad For The Environment Can Throwing Away One Plastic Bottle Be?' 30 Million People Wonder. We really get frozen into inaction because such a big problem overwhelms.

In honor of Earth Day I thought I would find the 5 simplest things we all could do that really do make a difference and if everyone did them it would make a HUGE difference. What do you say? Want to play along with me? The Go Green Blog offered the following:

Earth Day 2010

earthdayCelebrate Earth Day’s 40th anniversary on Thursday, April 22 by conserving. Use less energy, less water, and create less waste.
Here are the top 5 ways to conserve this Earth Day:

2- Install a low-flow showerhead
3- Use reusable shopping bags
4- Fix all leaky water fixtures
5- Stop using disposable items

I am not alone in my Passion for our dear planet, this is how several of my favorite blogs are honoring the day.

  1. You would think with all the 'green' crafting that I do I would have had a wonderful post ready for Earth Day, but, alas, I did not. Of course, then I started to think about it and hardly a project goes by where I don't embrace recycling, repurposing, and reusing! Every day is Earth Day for me.
