Creativity Tips and Fun Stuff

CREATIVITY - The ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc. [Creativity week begins here. Click for this week's Bliss Initiatives.]

Given that the title of this post, it seems more then fitting to give a creative shout out (her words, not mine) to  Creative Instigation Creativity Tips and Other Fun Stuff from Jan Sokoloff Harness. In her January 4, 2010 post, Jan offers a tip for finding your creative bone (click to read her full post) which is a perfect tip for reminding a creativity challenged person like me:

We'll start the year on my soap box. Plenty of room, climb on with me. Now, repeat after me:

I am creative.

There, see how simple that was. You just found your creative bone. It's in your head. It's in your heart. It's in your soul. It's in your hands, when you're mixing up a new recipe, repairing a broken fence or applauding someone else.

Isn't that great? There are so many helpful and inspiring people out there. It is positively exhilarating!

Leah over at  Creative Every Day has a really fun blog where she challenges people to get creative. What I really like about her site is the way she provides the links to all the people who are playing along with her. So far more then 600 people are playing along and 20+ share each week what they specifically are creating. Like my friend Jaye's Creative Prompt Project,  Leah offers prompts and a place to share creativity. I really got inspired clicking on her participants links. Click here to see this week's inspired activities.

Stephanie Orma at O' What a Creative Blog! asks:
What if the Backwards Restaurant existed? What would it look like? Would we ask the waiter for more hair in our soup? Or to kindly bring the screaming child closer to our table because our section is quiet? Asking "what if" questions is not only a good way to get the creative juices flowing but also a great way to seek solutions in everyday life. Challenge yourself to think backwards today and see what happens!

This next one is a creative tip so fun it makes me want to go out and get a job so I can do it!
From 52projects.com, a site all about projects and project-making. (Note: There are more than 52 projects so stop by and enjoy!)
Project #43  December 31st, 2009

Make a cake. A big one. Write something obscure on the top of it:

“How about 1972?”
“He just wouldn’t SHUT UP”
“Texas, here we come!”
“Tuesday is the day to roll the dice.”
“Here’s to more closet space!”
“Cubicle 404, YES!”

Then, place the cake in your office’s kitchen area or break room. Put paper plates and plastic forks next to it, and make sure to cut out a slice, so people know that it’s okay to eat. Don’t let anybody see you bring in the cake.

Looking for more? Stop by my old post "Tips to inspire your creative muse!" or conduct your own little web study. Creativity is a hot topic these days so I am certain you can find something that inspires. Maybe you try out the Creative Super Genius technique and combine a favorite thing or two along with the word creative. My google search creative glue pasta netted 1,850,000 results and several fun kid projects for Jessie and I to try.
