Ask a Question! - Another terrific guest post by Jingle

INQUIRY - a seeking or request for truth, information, or knowledge; study, scrutiny, exploration. [Inquiry week starts here. Click for this week's Bliss Initiatives.] Also, if you haven't done so already, please hop on over and take this VERY short, five question Survey.

I am totally delighted to be introducing, for the second time to guest blogging over at Everyday Bliss, my dear bloggy friend Jennifer who many of you know as Jingle. I first met Jingle when I was doing one of my Flash Inspiration Searches on Whimsy early in my blogging adventure. This is what I had to say at the time:

The final blog in my mini study of whimsy is called Just Jingle. Written/created by a young girl just 30 years old. She kind of reminds me of what I might have been like if I had a blog at her age. She creates some fabulous paper crafts and says things like "for reals" and "just say'n" all the time which cracks me up and maybe helps me not feel quite so old. Her Whimsy is infectious. Catch some now (Click on photo to see post about each project.)

Since that first introduction Jingle has been a total delight. I really couldn't ask for a better friend. She is supportive, fun, helpful and wise beyond her years. Here is what she had to say on Moxie the last time she guest posted: Let that Moxie out and Let it Fly!. See how great she is -- and now right off the bat she thanks me and it is certainly I who should be thanking her! So with out further ado, here is Jennifer:

---------------

First of all, I want to thank Kathy for inviting me to post again!

Now, I'm going to tell you right off the bat that this is not going to be a long post. You see, Kathy has asked me speak on Inquiry and that seems pretty basic to me.

You know... " Inquiring Minds Want to Know.

"

Well, that's just it! That is exactly what inquiry is! However, the best part of inquiry is not so much the end result. I mean, yes, knowing stuff is way cool and makes me happy. Particularly when I know more than everyone else around me. (Oh...wait...was that my out loud voice again? Hee-hee!) BUT, the true joy that comes from inquiry is not in the end result at all, but rather in the discovery process.

ASK. QUESTIONS.

Sounds easy, huh?

That is because it IS easy, but for some reason we tell ourselves that we shouldn't be asking questions. We should trust, or have faith, or believe, or whatever wonderful term has been thrown at you all your life.

Let me tell you something. There are things in life that cannot be proven or dis-proven. Those things, yes, we must make a decision on and take that on faith, trust, or belief. HOWEVER, there are SO many wonderful things that are surrounded by facts and information and if we just ASK we can get to the next step in that journey of discovery! It is so amazing and so absolutely EXCITING!!! Now, I'm not out here saying that there are no stupid questions. Because, let's be honest. There are. BUT, that doesn't mean you can't ask them. Sometimes a dumb question gets you over a dumb bump in the road and directs you down a path to the next brilliant question that leads to enlightenment!

So, I'll say it again.

ASK QUESTION.

About everything. Yes. Everything.

Ask questions about religion (*GASP*!). Yup. I said it. Out loud and on purpose. Ask them. Get answers. And run far from anyone who tells you that asking is wrong.

Ask questions about politics (*DOUBLE GASP*). Yup. I just crossed that line, too, folks. If you don't ask - if you ignore - you will not know. You will not learn and you will not be able to do what needs to be done.

Ask questions about your loved ones. No gasping here. It's communication, folks. Real, genuine communication. Do you wonder things about your significant other? Your kids? Your friends? Your parents? Your grandparents? Your grandchildren? ASK! More often than not people want to share things, they just don't because they feel as though no one cares.

Ask questions about the world around you. Study it. Learn it.

I actually had a grown man look at me as though I had four eyes when I suggested that his cell phone may not work well because he might live in a valley. His response? Well, how would I know if I lived in a valley???

Really? How long have you lived in that town? You should know these things about your surroundings. (We won't mention that when I suggested checking out a topographical map the four eyes I had must have then turned into eight. We also won't mention that he is my boss.)

I believe strongly in education. That may, indeed, be why I hold a degree in it. HA! I don't have an extensive formal education, unfortunately. Just a Bachelor's of Science at the moment. But I take every opportunity I can find to learn. I do believe in formal education, however, that does not mean that I feel that learning is limited to a classroom. I actually think it is essential that we take in all we can and learn and ASK and grow constantly!

Did I say this was going to be short? I think I lied. And for that, I apologize. But, I hope you take today to look around and ASK A QUESTION. Learn something new today. It's fun!

------------

Thank you again Jennifer. And to everyone else, if you haven't been over to meet Jingle at her blog you are heartily encouraged to head over to Just Jingle (that would be now... go ahead!)

  1. Yes! Yes! Yes! This is what I tell my children and my students all the time! Ask! Look! Watch! Learning isn't about books and classrooms, learning should be what we do all of every minute of every day!
So, in case you were in any doubt, I really agree with the sentiments published in this post!!

  3. Thank you again for featuring another terrific post from Jennifer (aka Jingle). It was so informative and so very true! I always seek answers - about my life and my desires. It's like when a child asks "why." You must always seek to KNOW and UNDERSTAND. It's how you grow as a person. Knowledge is everything. :) Bravo for another great post! Theresa
