Tweeters to the Rescue!

INQUIRY - a seeking or request for truth, information, or knowledge; study, scrutiny, exploration. [Inquiry week starts here. Click for this week's Bliss Initiatives.] Also, if you haven't done so already, please hop on over and take this VERY short, five question Survey.

Whew!!  As some of you have noticed, particularly my Firefox using friends,  I have been having a little problem over at the blog. When you looked at the blog it was totally unreadable and because I operate in Chromeland where things were working fine it took me a while to figure out there was a the problem.  (Thanks to Jingle and Peggy who spotted it and let me know!) For those of you using other browsers the only real impact is that I've spent an inordinate amount of time playing around with blog mechanics and not writing any new posts. That will be changing but before I get back at it I would like to share a few observations because as it turns out this ordeal was a bit of an inquiry itself.

Inquiry One -  When your tech savvy sweetie is in Japan where can you get help? I sent up flags cries of despair to my Facebook friends and I reached out on Twitter. In Facebook the result was more a fun diversion as my mostly un-techie friends provided reassuring banter. A couple of friends have pointed me in some good future development directions!

In twitter I searched keywords Firefox, Blogger, and Help and found several complete strangers who were willing to lend a hand. The beauty of  key word searches is you can find people with exactly the type of expertise you need. I was blown away by the number of tweeters who were willing to help.  As it turns out it was a tweeter who got me to the source of theactual problem which was that I had "copied and pasted" some incompatible type which triggered some kind of formatting change in the Firefox version of the blog.

Inquiry Two - finding the offending type. Not as simple as one might think and this is compounded by an annoying feature of blogger to add more white space (that I STILL can't figure out how to remove) on every re-post. I finally determined the problem is some where in my post about Twitter and Blog stats. I decided I am not going to spend the time combing through the type (I had already done so in Jingle's guest post, finding nothing and messing up the format!) so I just removed the offending post entirely and now everything works fine!

Hip Hip Hooray!!  I feel pretty proud that I figured it all out without my Sweetie having to intervene on my behalf!

Once again, I'm sorry for the annoyance some of you experienced and I'll be back later today or possibly tomorrow with some new Inquiries for you to enjoy!

Next Post - Back to Inquiry Week

  1. Oh what a mess! Big congrats to you, though, for figuring it all out...whew!!

And I KNOW - isn't that white space annoying? Let me know if you find a fix for that too. :)

  2. Well, it looks fantastic and YAY for you for getting it all straightened out! I've done far too much html messing around on my blog and now I need to do more, but I'm scared! LOL!

  3. I, too, have experiencing formatting problems with blogger. I usually scream a bit (to release tension) and then start from scratch. LOL I love when I can solve a computer tech problem without the help of my hubby. It makes me feel like I've actually absorbed something on my own! Have a wonderful weekend!!! :) Theresa
