So glad you've come! What brings you by these parts?

COMMUNITY - Sharing, participation, and fellowship. [Community week starts here. Click for this week's Bliss Initiatives.]

I am totally laughing right now. I was thinking that my post for today wasn't very good. So I came over to look at it and see what I could do to make it better and it isn't even here. All the garbage I wrote yesterday isn't here! I think the universe is on your side dear readers! I might have gone ahead with that crappy post, Do you ever just hit "post" even when you aren't thrilled with your work? Certainly not regularly because how would that make us feel but maybe just once in a while?

Ack, I really find it amusing that I am having so much trouble with this virtue. As I shared with you on Monday, Community as a virtue has been with me a VERY long time.  I consider it the foundation of everything but for some reason it hasn't translated very well to the written word. I suppose that makes sense, community is something to enjoy in the company of other people.

Yesterday, Pam wrote "If you build it they will come." and this has made me wonder what it is that I am building. When I started this blog I did it as a way to keep myself accountable for playing my Everyday Bliss Game. I told a few friends what I was doing and asked them to check in once in a while to make sure I didn't quit or anything. This type of public accountability works well for me. Generally speaking I will do EVERYTHING possible to insure that I don't let YOU down. Left completely on my own it would have been easy to quit.

All of a sudden, following my participation in the One World One Heart blog event I got introduced to the bigger blog world and it occurred to me that more then just a few close friends might actually be interested in what I am doing. Now I sit here with more then 250 followers wondering how/if what I am doing could actually be considered a community. I am thrilled that so many of you find what I am doing interesting enough to return on a daily or weekly basis. According to my blog stats about 100 of you stop by very regularly but most of you never even say hello.

I know how it is when you walk into a new place blog and you don't know anyone. Everyone looks friendly enough but they are always whispering in the corners talking in private email streams and not really interacting with you directly. A faint hello is offered in your direction but it is left up to you to nudge your way into the group. Today I hope to change that!

I've added the Disqus commenting system which will hopefully make the commenting a lot more interactive. I am also going to invite all of you lurkers shy visitors out there to come in and have some punch say hello! I'd love to know why you read my blog and if there is anything else I can get for you during your stay. To my regular party goers commenters you should know that the new system allows you to chat reply directly to all the comments so please feel free to add your input to any of the messages that inspire you to do so. The idea is to make things as conversational and inviting as possible!

So with that said, Please make yourself comfortable. I'm delighted to have you here!

What brings you around these parts today? Anything you would like to share?

  1. Hi Kathy! I am here because I value what you offer us. It's necessary and vital to women from all walks of life. It was a great idea to offer all these options for commenting...what a great idea. I'm always open to meeting new people, and I admit that sometimes I can be shy to speak up. But most everyone I've met through the blogging community are so friendly and encouraging. All of us have something to contribute, and thanks for giving us a way to do it! Theresa :)

  2. I completely agree with all that Theresa said! I'm loving this new comment option too!

As part of your community virtue, I think this is a great way to build a stronger community; afterall, isn't it all about making connections, building stronger bonds, and conversing with new people?

So see, even though this may be the hardest of the virtues for you to write about, I think you're off to a great start!

  5. Am I allowed to tell you you are daft as a brush? Or would that spoil the community feeling if I begin to call the lady of the house a brush?!
Community is a hard thing to pin down so I'm not surprised you are having trouble writing about it. Its either there, or not, you know when it is and you know when you lack it, but its invisible either way most of the time.
In real life I have to say I'm a 'lurker'. I panic if I have to enter a room full of people, even if I know most of them, and even going to Church I have to be early so that I'm not the one entering a full place. In real life I would try and welcome strangers and make people feel at comefortable, but its very rare indeed that I have received the same kindness.
Soo, keep at it Kathy! You are doing great- even if I called you a brush!!
