A little inquiry into distraction and no bigger questions.

INQUIRY - a seeking or request for truth, information, or knowledge; study, scrutiny, exploration. [Inquiry week begins here. Click for this week's Bliss Initiatives.]

OK so my post on "Bigger Questions" is NOT happening today. I'm just too distracted! My One World One Heart fellow participants are leading me all over the web and I'm loving it! Also, my Jessie girl has a cold so we have spent the past two days in the house. All the cool craft ideas are really helping my inquiry into distraction, although it would be nice if Jessie's interest could be held for more then 10 minutes per craft! The house is a disaster of glue, paper, paint, crayons, playdoh, stickers, stamps, piles of"insta snow,  clay,  and unique combinations of them all.  Admittedly adding red paint in the insta snow made for at least 30 minutes of fun.

Not that "insta snow" is normally considered a craft but mixing it with paint was a nice little science experiment. It should be noted that salt will "melt" the stuff into a nice red puddle. The little inquiry (see I am still sort of on track!) into the suitcase I still didn't empty since Christmas netted a couple of good diversions in addition to the snow. Lest you think my slothfulness is totally out of control, I had emptied the suitcase of all the dirty clothes and thought rather then unpacking all the little stocking stuffers we had acquired I would save them for another day and today turned out to be the day! Unfortunately a bunch of chocolate marshmallow snowman and other assorted sweets were also in the bag. Not sure "feed a cold" intends chocolate but as dessert to some noodle soup I figure it wasn't so bad.

Over the course of this cold Jessie has mastered gluing without using the entire bottle on one small piece of paper, mixing less then every color of paint with the others (we have officially left her brown period and are moving on to purples and even some greens!) and moving the curser on my computer's touch pad. I think the latter means I am letting her play far too many Peep in the Big Wide World  (that cute red gal is Chirp -- Peep's best friend!) computer games but when she is sick I am much more lax on my digital entertainment restrictions. This being said she has also watched her "cat movie" (The Aristocats) and Bolt, both of which I also find enjoyable even after dozens of viewings!

Well it looks like Jessie is ready for our watercolor experiments. We have several types of paper and we are going to see what happens when we paint on each of them. I'll report back if anything interesting develops!

 Next post: Another inquiry TBD

  2. Hi Kathy
It is awful when a little one is sick, isn't it.
There are only so many hours of video anyone can watch.
    How about doing crayon rubbings.
You can use coins or interesting plates etc put paper over and rub with a crayon to see a pattern come through.I bet she could find lots of things through the house or outside.
I hope she feels better soon.
And thank you for my birthday wishes too.

  3. Thank you guys!

Lynda, thanks for another idea to add to the repertoire. You are absolutely right about the video stuff. When she is well she is allowed two half hour shows a day and often we skip those. It really is treat for her to watch two movies in as many days Thankfully I think were nearing the end of this one and we'll back to our park and play date circuit in no time!

    Thanks for the well wishes!!
