A year of Whimsy - A Whimsy Retrospective

WHIMSY - extravagant, fanciful, or excessively playful expression; an odd or fanciful notion. [Whimsy Week starts here. Click for this week's Bliss Initiatives.]

I'm laughing over here. I had some BIG idea for this post and I just can't seem to remember what the heck it is I wanted to write about. I think part of it has to do with my distraction regarding a little rant over on the other blog. I'm supposed to be investigating Wonder over there but I got fixated on an environmental concern stirred up from my recent trip to Lake Tahoe and wrote about that instead. I think I scared my readers who usually find me less sententious. Click here if you'd like to check it out.

Whimsy is cooking over at our house. We have glitter and glue tracked all over the place and several projects lay half finished around the family room and kitchen. I think we'll finish up our fairy doors later today. We are making a retro ambrosia salad for our block party and my girl has embraced the use of Maraschino cherries and marshmallows in food. Ha! who doesn't!!

Instead of flailing about trying to figure out my original intent, I thought I'd give you a little Whimsy retrospective. This virtue has been so fun this past year I think a little review is in order. Enjoy the highlights and click on over to the original posts if you want to see more!

From the Wearable Whimsy post:

This fabulous dress is made of PAPER!!

I found it on the JoMA (The Journal of Mythical Arts) web site.

From the post More Wearable Whimsy:  [Note: fun Jewelry is also included in that post]

These colorful whimsical shoes, by Hetty Rose, are handmade using vintage fabrics! From the website:  The collection is based on a theory of re-using and re-working vintage materials in a creative and sustainable way, hand making gorgeous, feminine shoes to fit. Image found in NinkyBink Blog.

This topic lends itself well to my daughter. As I told you earlier this week, she is very accomplished in the art of whimsy so while Everyday Mommy captures more of her daily expressions  she has made several appearances during Whimsy weeks.

There is of course her Towders and Nests which I shared again on Tuesday:

Then there is Kitchen Whimsy, one of the funniest, particularly for you foodie folks:

And the always fun Whimsy of a Child:
I can't help myself, I love this photo and
will use any excuse to re-post it!

If you are looking for other topics, I've also covered:

Well, I think that is enough, I hope you enjoyed this retrospective and please come back tomorrow when I wrap the week up with some whimsical conclusions! Happy Saturday everyone!

How whimsical has your week been?

Next Post: Whimsy week wrap up

  1. The end of this week was full of whimsy - you can see on my new blog post what I have been up to. :) I thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for such a lovely faerie mention this week. It meant so much to me. We went for a nature walk today and happened upon all sorts of natural whimsies in the woods. :) I'll share them soon. Theresa
