Creative Living and Everyday Inspiration

CREATIVITY - The ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc. [Click here for this week's Bliss Initiatives.]

I originally planned on providing some creative tips for everyday living in this post but what do you know, some everyday creative living of my own got in the way!

Here I am trying to get a few minutes of blogging done in between the hopping around the new house Jessie was promoting for our morning activity.  Hopping is a great way to test out the step down into the family room and when accompanied by stuffed doggies and hippos it is particularly entertaining.

Yesterday we spent a good part of our day unpacking boxes and generally getting settled into the new house.  We creatively decided to keep our beautiful new side by side refrigerator (anyone who ever saw our old one, circa 1960, will understand our quick formed attachment to our new one) and get a smaller dishwasher to accommodate the tight fit in one corner of the kitchen. We're adding an island in a little while which will help add functional space to the room and give us everything we want in our new space.

We also took a little break to work on our Creative Prompt project and came up with these fabulous fairy wands.

I saw the following link while surfing around and while I can find no particular context in which to frame it, I thought it was fun and figured I'd share it anyway:
100 creative ideas for customizing & recycling your old t-shirts by Andy over at Hide Your Arms

Once again, one week isn't nearly enough to explore this virtue.  I feel the inquiry boosted creativity but I remain wistful when considering all the options I left untried! I rate myself 6 out of a possible 10 for this week.

Jaye forwarded the following to me and I thought it was a nice final thought for creativity week.  Follow the links for more everyday inspiration!

Everyday Inspiration

October 9th, 2009 in Inspiration By Diane Pedersen

A creative life is filled with challenges and rewards, puzzles and curiosities. This ongoing series of poems attempts to express the “Aha’s” and “What ifs”, the deep ponderings and casual observations of an inquiring mind trying to make sense of reality. May it serve, for you, as a bit of “Everyday Inspiration” along your own creative path.

I look
for the las
fig. The leaves
have yellowed
while I was away—
five days
and the seasons
have changed.

One last almost-ripe fruit
clings
to the branch—
firm
succulent
waiting for
the last warm day
to soften.

The birds
have found
the rest.

I knock them
to the ground.

One last bloom
on the Rudy Rose.

Summer resists leaving
and so do I.

Next post: PASSION week begins!

My 13 bliss virtues: joy, order, creativity, passion, whimsy, serenity, inquiry, community, romance, gratitude, moxie, humility, surprise

  1. You're right! A week isn't enough time. I couldn't help noticing that there are 13 "blisses", just like there are 13 cards in each suit in a deck of 52. 52 being the number of weeks in a year, I think you should go back to the list again for the whole year and see what comes of each initiative after you've been though the list one or two times....
Well, it would be a nice thought to be able to spend that much time comtemplating these things all year anyway.

  2. I just saw this comment Jessica. You are on to my exact plan! This is (at least) a year long game so I will be doing each virtue 4 times!
    Thanks so much for reading!
