Career Passion

PASSION - a fervent or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything; experience of strong love or sexual desire. [Click here for this week's Bliss Initiatives]

Today's post is for my job hunting friends. The one area of PASSION that holds mountains of material is the area of career passion. The bottom line when consulting these sources is finding "your true passion" is the way to success. Indeed we are all enthralled by stories  about people who "against the odds" make their fortune following their passion.

In the world of reality, with things like rent or mortgages, it isn't always that simple. Before her big break J.K Rowling struggled to earn a living and take care of her daughter. If you have been unemployed for a long time the pressure to take ANY job begins to loom.

I was laid off twice in the space of two years and for a long time I tried to force my way back into the type of sales jobs I had been doing successfully for years before. The truth of the matter was my heart just wasn't in it. What had been exciting and interesting in my 20's and early 30's held no further interest but I felt trapped. If I changed my career path I would, in all likelihood, also take a huge financial hit. I resisted this for a long time and took ill fitting jobs until I finally took the plunge and walked away from what felt like "easy money", (we all know that was far from the reality!)

Having gotten hooked on a lifestyle kept me from moving more quickly toward the kind of life I really wanted.  My extreme measures, giving all of my stuff away and moving across country and taking a job that barely paid the rent, wouldn't work for everyone, particularly those of you with children. However, keeping your mind open to possible options outside your current career path may be just what has you find your passion!

    I think that one thing to consider is that you can love something about your job, but not your particular job. I think it is important to think about, and parse out what you like and don't like about a situation before moving forward, especially if a person has family obligations, etc.

  • 12. CHASTITY - Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or to the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation.
  • 13. HUMILITY - Imitate Jesus and Socrates.
